Trying New Restaurants

By: Vincent Wu

Something everyone eventually has to do but often delays

Are you a risk taker or someone who plays it safe?

If you’re deciding what restaurant your family goes to, what would you do in this scenario?

Let’s assume the following:

The restaurant cuisine is a fit.

The reviews seem solid.

There aren’t many pictures of the place though, let alone pictures of the food.

Would you go, or would you keep on looking? To me, it would boil down to do I want to keep on looking, or just go back to that other restaurant we’ve been to 100 times.

Now 101 times later, that restaurant, that I initially thought was okay, is not somewhere I want to go anymore.

It’s mundane. It’s the same. Nothing is different. But that’s why I went there. I wanted something consistent. Something I could expect, something I would be okay with…until it’s not okay anymore.

It only breaks when I take a chance on a restaurant with 5 reviews, 3 pictures of their dishes, and looks okay.

Maybe I’ll hate it.

Maybe it’s not that deep though.

Maybe those 5 reviews and 3 pictures are good enough.

Maybe I’ll love the food.

Maybe I’ll find a new hidden gem, and make it so they have 6 reviews at 6 good pictures now :)
